How are the counts calculated?

Characters include spaces and line breaks. Combined accents and emojis count as one visual character in modern browsers. Without spaces also excludes tabs and line breaks.

Words are sequences of letters or numbers; internal hyphens and apostrophes do not split them. Chinese and Japanese use browser segmentation when selected. Sentences are estimated from punctuation; abbreviations can affect the result.

Lines count Enter breaks, including empty lines, not visual wrapping. Paragraphs are blocks separated by empty lines. Empty text returns zero counts.

Time = words ÷ 200, converted to seconds and rounded up. A fixed reference, not a validated speed for every language. Older browsers may count emojis and Asian words differently.
